They did their best to keep me
For this collection, I showcased my family's story of coming to America and the reasons that brought them here. Many immigrants, like my Great Grandfather, grew up in poverty and came to the United States for a better life. This was 110 years ago. Not much has changed. This country is made up of many people with similar stories. This is my Grandfathers. These works are created from the memories of his childhood documented through his writings over 70 years later.
This collection is made of prints which were created with a process called Collagraph where texture is used to form the imagery. I used materials with varying textures to create the print plates such as: gel medium, pumice gel, paper towel, rice paper, fabric, embroidery thread, raffia and masking tape.
This collection has been shown at Eastern Washington University's the Senior Capstone Exhibition and the 2019 Creative Works Symposium.
